Approachable Design for Real Homes — and Real Life

Design doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It doesn’t have to be expensive. And it definitely doesn’t have to feel like it belongs to someone else’s life.

The Little Blue Barn brings a warm, collected approach to interior styling — mixing vintage character with modern function, keeping real families in mind, and focusing on spaces that feel intentional and livable from day one.

Interior Styling Services

Room Refresh

A Room Refresh is a focused design service that transforms one space in your home without a full renovation. It’s perfect for rooms that feel unfinished, outdated, or simply no longer reflect your style — but don’t require construction. Think of it as giving your space new energy using thoughtful edits, intentional color, and curated styling.

What’s Included

  • Furniture layout evaluation and reconfiguration
  • Paint and color direction (if needed)
  • Lighting and fixture recommendations
  • Styling shelves, mantels, and surfaces
  • Artwork and wall placement guidance
  • Rug and textile layering suggestions
  • Accessory editing and enhancement
  • A curated shopping list for any recommended additions

Often, a space doesn’t need to be torn apart — it needs to be refined. Small, strategic changes can dramatically improve how a room looks and feels without unnecessary expense.

Design Boards

A Design Board is a visual plan that brings your room together before anything is purchased or installed — a curated layout of furniture, finishes, colors, textures, and accessories selected to create a cohesive and intentional space.

Design boards remove guesswork. Instead of wondering if pieces will work together, you’ll see how everything flows before making a single commitment.

What’s Included

  • Furniture selections and layout direction
  • Color palette coordination
  • Lighting and fixture recommendations
  • Rug and textile pairings
  • Artwork and styling guidance
  • Finish and material suggestions
  • Clickable or itemized sourcing list (when applicable)

Each board is tailored to your home’s architecture, lighting, and lifestyle — not pulled from a template.

Color Consultations

Color is one of the most powerful and most misunderstood tools in design. The wrong color can make a room feel smaller, darker, or just off. The right one transforms a space — and a home.

Karen’s color consultations are grounded in a lifelong study of color theory, years of hands-on paint experience, and a deep understanding of Colorado’s unique lighting conditions.

  • The Refresh — $200
Best for 1–2 rooms. Includes a 60-minute in-home consult, 2–3 color options per space, trim and sheen guidance, and a follow-up email summary.

  • The Signature Palette — $575 (Most Popular)
Best for the main level or 3–5 spaces. Includes a 90-minute consult, whole-level flow strategy, 2–3 curated options per space, ceiling and trim coordination, a sample placement plan, digital recap with exact color codes, and one follow-up adjustment.

  • The Elevated Home Plan — $1,800
Best for whole-home or remodel projects. Includes a 2-hour in-home consult, full home cohesive palette, interior and exterior coordination, cabinet and built-in color guidance, a detailed paint schedule document, a contractor-ready finish list, and two follow-up revisions.

Add-On Options

  • Exterior color consult: +$350–$600
  • On-site sample placement visit: +$150
  • Digital mockups: +$125 per room

Furniture Sourcing

Finding the right piece can transform a space. The wrong one can throw everything off. Karen sources intentionally — not randomly — searching local showrooms, trade vendors, estate sales, vintage markets, antique shops, Facebook Marketplace, and regional artisans to find pieces that truly fit your vision and your life.

What’s Included

  • Identifying what the space truly needs (scale + function)
  • Defining style direction with you
  • Sourcing curated options within your budget
  • Mixing new and vintage pieces for a collected feel
  • Providing selections with links or location details
  • Coordinating delivery when needed

Investment: sourced pieces are priced at item cost + 25% sourcing fee. Transportation and delivery coordinated as needed.

Tailored Sourcing for Statement & Hard-to-Find Pieces

Some pieces are worth searching for. Whether you’re looking for a vintage statement cabinet, perfectly scaled lighting, a unique textile, or a modern anchor piece, Karen sources with your overall design vision — and your real life — in mind.

I specialize in locating one-of-a-kind, character-rich pieces that aren’t easily found in big box stores — blending vintage charm with modern function for spaces that feel layered and timeless.

If the perfect piece exists, I’ll find it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can interior styling services be done remotely, or is an in-person visit required?2026-05-22T16:35:54-06:00

Most services benefit from an in-person session, particularly room refreshes and furniture sourcing. Design boards can be developed with good photos, measurements, and a video call to walk through the space. What is possible remotely will be clarified once the project scope is understood.

How does the team approach a home that has a lot of existing furniture the owner wants to keep?2026-05-22T16:36:15-06:00

That is a very common starting point. The process begins with what is already there, repositioning, editing, and layering rather than replacing. If a specific piece is genuinely not working for the space, that will be communicated honestly along with alternatives. The goal is never to replace what you own, but to figure out what is serving the space and what is not.

Is there a minimum spend or scope required for interior styling projects?2026-05-22T16:36:34-06:00

There is no formal minimum. Single-room projects are taken on as often as whole-home engagements. If you have a specific room or problem you want to address, that is enough to get started. The best way to understand what is involved and what it will cost is through a quick introductory call.
